Introducing “The WaterDog” an Automatic Dog Waterer
This little gadget here is the answer to most of my problems about keeping my dogs hydrated.
The WaterDog automatic dog watering system is an answer to prayer because it does exactly what I want, it provides fresh, cool water from the tap with out my “far from genius” dogs having to learn how to operate the ‘lick and sip’ (or what ever it’s called) that’s collecting dust in the garage as we speak.
The WaterDog has a motion detector and a timed valve that squirts water out whenever one of the dogs comes up to it.
Most of the ads I saw had a dog drinking off the stream, that must be one of those “genius” dogs, mine just fills a small bowl under the spigot.
It’s not a very big bowl at all, just enough to catch and hold a healthy slurp or two.
I don’t know if my dogs figured out that it shoots more out if they back up and come right back or if they just know they can get a drink if they stop by.
Either way, problem solved!
Thanks WaterDog and Thank You Good Life.

Let’s start with:
Nelson’s Model 1200 Automatic Dog Waterer
Nelson’s slogan for this product is:
Man’s Best Friend Deserves the Best
and I do believe that if you choose this dog waterer, your dog will be getting the absolute best.
The following is the sales spiel that is found on the Nelson Mfg. website and just about any other site that may be trying to hawk this particular product (including my website) but the first thing I noticed about this watering device is that it is “commercial grade”.
Whether you care for one or many dogs, the Nelson 1200 Automatic Dog Waterer is ideal for dog lovers, humane societies, animal control facilities, boarding kennels, veterinary clinics, zoos, farm and home.
- The dog waterer that’s never empty! Float actuated valve automatically replenishes the water as dogs drink. Eliminates the hassle of watering your dog.
- Built to last a lifetime. Manufactured from tough 304 grade stainless steel. Its surfaces won’t chip, crack or rust. Stainless steel float guard protects float and valve assembly.
- Easy to clean. Patented latch release allows the drinking bowl to be quickly removed for cleaning and sterilizing
- NEW Innovative float valve reduces maintenance time and expense. There are no troublesome cotter pins and screws. Acetal plastic valve is tough and food-grade certified. Patent Pending. See Illustration
- Simple to install. Equipped with stainless steel wall mounting plate and pre-drilled holes. Optional garden hose adapter and kennel fence pole mounting brackets are also available. Right or left side waterline hookup, 1/8″ FTP.
- Compiles with USDA standards and US Government approved no-siphoning design.
Dog Waterer Accessories
Accessory K1 – Water line shut-off valve. Brass ball valve requires only quarter turn to open or close. Shut-off valve has 1/4″ FTP on both ends.
Accessory K2 – Pole mounting bracket. Secures waterer to most kennel posts, 5/16″ carriage bolts furnished. (Fits Model 1200 Automatic Dog Waterer and Model 1400 Dog Feeding Pan).
Accessory K3 – Garden Hose Adapter (1 ft. of hose supplied with fittings). Allows faucet to serve both dog waterer and garden hose.
Dave’s Humble Opinion
Commercial grade products usually come with a commercial grade price (but you usually get what you pay for), we’ll see where the Nelson 1200 comes in on price in a few minutes.
“Commercial grade” also usually implies rugged and sturdy construction with heavy duty materials that will last for years and years and it appears that Nelson has hit the nail on the head with this one.
304 grade stainless steel (whatever that is), a float guard made of the same stuff and a float activated water valve with the bare minimum of moving parts (less moving parts = less chances of breaking)
The 1200 also boasts some claims about the plastic fittings being food grade and USDA compliant which is all very good and the installation or mounting bracket is basic enough for a retarded monkey to be able to figure out.
This is all good stuff and provides more than a convincing argument when it comes to “should I buy it” but again I look at the commercial grade factor and wonder if I need something that solid that I am only going to use 6-7 months out of the year here in Kansas because its going to be outside and only going to be used by one dog and I’m not gonna fork out whatever it cost to have a warmer attached to it and I can go on an on.
This product is geared toward folks who raise dogs or train dogs and have a facility designed for long term use with controlled temperatures or possibly as an indoor (attached garage) dog waterer.
I also look at the fact that in the heat of the summer, there is still water simmering in a bowl and if an individual (like me) doesn’t pay attention and clean the reservoir out regularly, the dog will still be drinking dirty, tepid water.
Now let’s talk about:
The “WaterDog” Automatic Dog Water Fountain
Obviously I am going to lean toward this particular product (I did build a website about it after all) but I will be pointing out some obvious drawbacks and my ‘humble’ opinion of the quality of the material that is used in making the WaterDog Pet Drinking Fountain

Thumper Percussive Massagers:
Are They Worth All The Hype?
If the mechanical operation of the Thumper Maxi Pro can recreate the manual techniques described below then yes, the Maxi Pro Percussion Massager is absolutely deserving of all the hype that this little device has been given.
Being the pessimist that I am, I have a hard time believing that any mechanical device can produce the same or superior results in a situation where the human touch is a necessary factor for any form of satisfactory results.
Having said that, let me be honest and mention that I have never experienced a personally administered percussive massage so I really have no idea what one would feel like.
I have, however, been the proud recipient of a deep tissue massage and some pretty rough localized shiatsu sessions because of the size and thickness of a few of my muscle groups and have heard a few complaints about how difficult it is to work on me.
This particular situation is what led me to my wife’s chiropractor and my very first introduction to the Thumper Massager.
It was the Maxi Pro that they used on me first and it was absolutely wonderful and if that was all they had done that day I probably wouldn’t hate chiropractors like I do but unfortunately for me, they did not stop with the amazingly wonderful Maxi Pro.
The Following Is A Brief Description Of What To Expect From A Percussion Massage
Percussion movements (tapotement) involve a series of light, brisk, striking actions applied with alternate hands in rapid succession.
Two of the main percussion strokes are cupping and hacking; they may be performed on many areas of the body, although they are especially effective when used on fleshy and large muscular areas of the body such as the thighs.
Other tapotement movements include flicking, beating and pounding.
When performing tapotement movements the action originates from the wrists and not from the elbows or shoulders, which remain still throughout.
Many beginners make the mistake of practicing percussion movements from the elbows and shoulders, resulting in frustration and clumsiness.
Cupping is performed with your palms facing downwards, forming a hollow curve.
It is sometimes known as ‘clapping’.
As you bring your cupped hands down on to the body in quick succession, a vacuum is created which is released when you bring your hands up.
The sound should be hollow like a horse trotting.
Listen for the sound.
Hacking is probably the best-known massage stroke since it is the movement almost always shown in films.
It is achieved with the edge of the hands (the ulnar border).
Hold your hands over body with the palms facing each other, the thumbs uppermost.
Flick your hands rhythmically up and down in rapid succession.
Use these movements at the end a massage to wake the person up!
Obviously, if you are trying to relax someone totally hacking may be omitted altogether.
If you are nervous about using these movements, practice them first on a cushion or a pillow placed on your lap.
Flicking is a movement similar to hacking and is often described as ‘finger hacking’.
To perform this movement flex your wrists slightly and bring only the sides of your little fingers into contact with the body (not the edge of the hands as well).
Flicking is a much lighter, softer movement than the usual hacking movement.
Beating and pounding movements are both applied with your hands in a closed position with your fists lightly clenched.
Beating is performed with the ulnar border (little finger side) of the closed fists, whereas in pounding the palmar surface of the hands are employed.
The closed fists are applied to the body in quick succession.
Benefits
-Percussion movements are very stimulating.
-Tapotement is extremely useful for athletes before an event.
-As the blood is drawn to the surface the circulation is improved.
-Cupping is beneficial when performed over the upper and middle back area as it loosens mucus in the lungs aiding expectoration.
-Percussion movements are also valuable in inducing muscle tone as well as strengthening muscles since they stimulate the muscle to contract.
-They are also useful in reducing fatty deposits and flabby muscle areas and are often used over the buttocks and thighs.
-Gentle tapotement given over the abdomen increases peristalsis, thereby aiding conditions such as constipation.
Errors To Avoid
-Make sure that when cupping, your hands are really cupped -otherwise a smacking sound will be heard, which is stinging and painful.
-When hacking do not tense up the fingers of your hands or the movement will feel like a karate chop.
-Keep your hands relaxed and loose and ensure that the movements are coming from the wrist.
-Keep your elbows tucked closely in; if you use your elbows and shoulders you will be exhausted quickly.
-These strokes must not be performed over the bony areas they will hurt.
-Try not to concentrate on the strokes, otherwise you may lose the rhythm.

Automatic Dog Waterer: Some Reviews For The Aqua Buddy and The Nelson 1200B
Automatic Dog Waterer:
Some Reviews For The Aqua Buddy and The Nelson 1200B
http://automaticdogwaterer.dogsilencerpro.net
Aqua Buddy, 2 Quart Automatic Waterer.
Our stylish 2 quart waterer is just the right size for the home and goes well with any decor.
Connects to any garden hose and provides consistent fresh water for your pet while you are home or away.
This reliable waterer is made of durable polypropylene.
It cleans quickly and is sun resistant.
Ideal for cats and dogs of all sizes as well as nearly any other pet’s hydration needs.
Will not over flow and no training required.
STEVE SAYS:
We sell a lot of the Nelson Automatic Dog Waterers.
It’s a very popular product for us even though it’s a little on the expensive side. Nelson is the high-end of the dog waterers.
The low end of the waterers that we sell are plastic, and I am never a big fan of a plastic bowl for a dog. It is just something to chew on. That is one of the things you have got to look at and decide, “I have a chewer or I don’t have a chewer.” You don’t have to worry about your dog chewing on the Nelson 1200B because it’s built out of stainless steel.
The Nelson Automatic waterers require you to have a water connection that is close to where you mount it. It has got a float in it and basically, as the dog drinks the water down, the float gets down to a certain level and it automatically
refills. It’s pretty neat.
The biggest fear that I have with this type of product is that it doesn’t eliminate the need for keeping an eye on your dog. I wouldn’t recommend leaving for two weeks and leaving it hooked up in case something happened. Although you don’t have to worry about your dog’s water getting low, it’s always a good idea to check on a daily basis to make sure every thing is in working order and your dog is properly hydrated. A dog can not go long without water in the summer time before getting heat
stroke or dying.
The other thing you have got to watch on automatic dog waterers is cleaning them. Depending on where your place your waterer, you are going to get some algae. If it is in the sun at all you are going to get fast algae build up. If you keep it out of the sun and clean it once a week most folks ought to be in good shape. Bleach kills algae probably faster than anything, but you can kill it with soap too. It’s not a big deal.
We have very, very few returns on the Nelson 1200B because they are nice, stout products.
Let’s look at some good reviews and some not so good reviews for the Aqua Buddy Automatic Dog Waterer.
Great Pet Watering Device
January 20, 2009 By L.C.
The Aqua Automatic Pet Watering Bowl works great.
It is really nice to not have to lift the heavy water bottle that our other device had.
We have had the Aqua Buddy Automatic Waterer for over a month now and both our dog and cat seem to enjoy drinking out of it.
They both took to it right away without any hesitation.
Georgia, Jul 18, 2010
Dog only use it when the weather is cool.
Water gets too hot during the summer so they don’t drink from it.
Must be dumped and cleaned every day out because the water turns slimy and green .
The dogs prefer to come inside and drink from the toilet.
East Bay, CA, Jun 8, 2010
I got this hooked up once I switched to a new hose.
The old one didn’t allow for a flush enough connection to prevent leaks.
It works now and I like it.
My dogs both drank from it.
The only reason for 4 stars is its a little light so it can be tipped over with a strong paw or carried in a mouth… but then I have 2 German Shepherds.
Overall I think it’s a great buy for when you wont be home to refill the bowl.
Arizona, Feb 19, 2010
Have had this running for about a month now.
We purchased this for our chickens so they would have a fresh supply of water outside.
Works great, fills to about 2/3 full.
Very stable on the ground and doesnt grow algae like some containers do.
Las Vegas, NV, Aug 12, 2009
I have to say when this bowl arrived I was a bit discouraged because it was so light weight.
I have three big dogs so something heavier would have been preferred.
The only complaint is that the hose connection cannot be moved so, if your hose comes from the wrong side, like mine does you have to place the bowl part facing the wall.
We have had the bowl in operation for about a month now and it works great.
The dogs did tip it over once at first but I guess not having water for a few hours taught them to leave it alone after that.
So far, so good -it is a good value and a good product.
We will have to see how it survives.
Great, would recommend
Great, would recommend

Automatic Dog Waterer Wars
The Aqua Buddy Vs. The Nelson 1200B
Apparently the Aqua Buddy is ‘stylish’ and it’s pleasing design will flow well (pun intended) with whatever exterior decor you choose to introduce it to.
From the pictures I would agree that this is a good looking piece of equipment, as far as dog water bowls go, it actually caught my eye when I was looking for the WaterDog Pet Fountain.
The Aqua Buddy fairs very well on the price-o-meter, coming in well below the Nelson 1200B at around $24 – $30 (depending where you shop).
Here is what the makers of the Aqua buddy have to say about their product:
The stylish Aqua Buddy waterer is just the right size for the home and goes well with your decor.
Connects to any garden hose and provides consistent fresh water for your pet while you are home or away.

Science And Sensibility Are Introduced
Through The Magic Of The WaterDog
The WaterDog is an automatic drinking fountain that is designed to give your pet direct access to fresh clean water, at any time.
A sonar-based proximity sensor triggers the WaterDog to turn the water on when your pet comes within three feet (one meter), and turns it off when your pet leaves.
Dogs quickly learn that they can always get a drink from the WaterDog.
This greatly reduces the risk of your dog becoming dehydrated on a hot day, or developing disease from a contaminated water bowl.
The Waterdog attaches easily, without tools, to any outdoor faucet, and the height is fully adjustable to suit any sized dog.
With the “Y” connector (included), you can connect a garden hose alongside the WaterDog, so you never need to remove the device to water your garden.
The WaterDog automatic outdoor pet drinking fountain is constructed of durable, high-quality UV resistant materials, and has been designed to provide many years of reliable service.
